General
MRT stands for “Magnetic Rope Testing”, THE non destructive rope testing method (NDT)
LF means “Local Defects
LMA stands for “Loss of Metallic Area”.
While the LF measurement represents a relative measurement, the LMA channel represents an absolute measurement. Both channel types are important for the statement about the rope condition and complement each other with their respective strengths. All ROPESYS sensors have all channels as standard.
In principle, all types of steel wire ropes can be tested using the magnetic method.
Yes. Due to the high magnetization (>1.9T), all wires of the rope are fully tested.
Ja. Die Prüfgeräte können Veränderungen im metallischen Seilquerschnitt ab 0,5% Querschnittsanteil sicher detektieren.
Hardware
Devices of the R-series are closed, circularly symmetrical devices (Round). The magnets are arranged circularly symmetrical around the rope, which results in a very homogeneous magnetization and minimal external magnetic forces. For most applications (hoisting ropes, conveyor ropes, ziplines, hauling ropes etc.) devices of the R-series are ideally suited.
U-series devices, on the other hand, have a U-shaped design that is open on one side. Thus, these devices (often in conjunction with a pneumatic opening and lifting device) are suitable for traversing obstacles such as rope riders and support shoes of cable cars, which is why they are ideally suited for testing suspension ropes.
The ROPESYS MRT devices are offered in three standard sizes:
- Size 28 for ropes from 6 – 28 mm rope diameter
- Size 58 for ropes from 18 – 58 mm rope diameter
- Size 83 for ropes from 38 – 83 mm rope diameter
ROPESYS rope inspection devices are based on decades of experience of renowned rope inspectors.
In addition to classic induction coils, a large number of magnetic field sensors are arranged around the rope circumference, enabling three-dimensional localization of damage. Among other things, this can provide information about the location of the defect in the rope cross-section.
The ROPESYS rope testers output different channels:
- Speed
- LF coil channel 1 & 2 (redundant)
- LMA channel
- Hall channel (up to 64 separate) channels, individually readable, display in 3D heat map)
You can work for over 10 hours with a fully charged, as-new battery. We guarantee a full measuring time of over 5 hours. If this is not sufficient for you, you have several options:
- Charge the battery during the measurement in the instrument using the supplied power supply unit.
- Continue to operate the tester with the power supply unit.
- Change the battery.
The built-in Li-ion battery is fully approved and has a nominal energy <100 Wh. It is therefore approved for transport in aircraft (also in hand-luggage).
Should you require information or a data sheet on the battery, please contact our service department at info@ropesys.com.
Yes, the supplied rechargeable battery can be changed. It can be charged both in the tester using the supplied power supply unit and on an external charging cradle (optionally available).
For a compact design and smooth running, the contact of the testing device to the rope is made by means of exchangeable plastic guiding blocks. Steplessly adjustable roller trolleys are available as an option, which can be adapted to all testing devices.
Die ROPESYS Seilprüfgeräte sind in zwei Varianten verfügbar:
- mobile Geräte für den temporären Einsatz (“Expert”)
- permanent installierte Geräte zur permanenten Überwachung von Seilen (“SMART”)
The following components are required as minimum equipment:
- 1 rope tester (R28 / R58 / R83 / U28 / U58 / U83)
- 1 pair of sensors
- 1 pair of suitable guide jaws
- 1 measuring wheel
- 1 notebook for displaying the measurement and for evaluation
Guide rails and sensors are exchangeable to ensure optimum centering of the tester around the rope. Basically, the closer the sensor to the rope, the better the signal quality
Software & Electronics
Communication with the inspection device itself can take place via nearly any Wi-Fi enabled device (cell phone, tablet, notebook…).
The connection between notebook and rope tester is realized via a local WiFi connection, which is established automatically.
In this case, the measurement continues without restrictions and all measurement data is recorded in full. The associated tablet / notebook serves only as a display device, the measurement data recording takes place in the instrument itself.
For the classic induction coil channels, a minimum speed of 0.3 m/s (60ft/min) is required. Thanks to the Hall sensor channels integrated as standard, measurement is already possible from the minimum speed.
Depending on the application, the maximum test speed of an Expert device can be up to 4 m/s. Contact-free installed Smart devices can run up to 10 m/s and more.
Yes. In principle, sensors can be replaced or added at any time.
Service
Our experienced experts will be happy to support you in building up knowledge on the subject of rope & rope testing.
We will gladly take care of your application and design a rope tester to suit your requirements. And that already from a quantity of 1.
All our rope testers are calibrated according to EN 12927 and are only delivered fully calibrated with certificate. According to EN 12927 a new calibration has to be carried out after 3 years. For this purpose we offer you our calibration service.
