Haul rope inspection South Africa Table Mountain – ROPESYS in action at iconic aerial cableway.

In June 2025, our colleague Marcus Liebscher travelled to southern Africa. The purpose of his assignment: a haul rope inspection at the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway, one of the most famous cable cars in the world.

This spectacular aerial tramway carries hundreds of visitors every day to the famous Table Mountain – high above Cape Town.

Exactly here came our reliable ROPESYS-system for the rope-inspection to the use.

Careful planning for a smooth operation

Especially with exposed systems like this, precise preparation is particularly important. That’s why the haul rope inspection was already planned and coordinated in detail in advance

Thanks to the good cooperation with the cable car operator, Marcus Liebscher was able to install the ROPESYS device precisely and carry out the measurements on schedule.

The inspection was not only carried out quickly, but also fully in line with the high quality standards.

Rope inspection under extreme conditions

The special feature of this cable car lies in its route: without intermediate supports, the cable car overcomes a very steep section from the valley to the mountain station.

During the inspection, both the upper haul rope and the lower haul rope were systematically checked.

Such challenges impressively demonstrate how flexible and robust the ROPESYS rope testing device can be used under demanding conditions worldwide.

Fascinating view meets modern testing technology

In addition to the technology, the scenery was particularly impressive: the cable inspection on Table Mountain offered breathtaking views – both during daylight and at sunset.

For Marcus, this mission was not only technically exciting, but also a visual experience.

The combination of nature, altitude, and modern testing technology makes missions like these very special moments – also for the ROTEC team.
