New R28 rope testing device for the zipline in the Styrian Alps.
The Stoderzinken zipline in Gröbming, Styria, now has a new R28 rope inspection device from ROPESYS.
Anyone flying over the Alps there at speeds of up to 115 km/h is likely thinking more about the adrenaline rush than about the inspection of the cables.
To ensure things stay that way, the experienced operations team diligently takes care of technical maintenance.
The facility spans two sections and a total distance of 2.5 kilometers, making it the largest zipline in Europe.
Keeping an eye on eight suspension cables: the R28 cable testing device
On both sections, four cables are tensioned in parallel—making a total of eight load-bearing cables. All of them must be inspected regularly.
For this reason, those in charge on-site recently acquired a brand-new R28 rope testing device.
The device uses magnetic induction to inspect wire ropes directly on-site at the installation. It precisely detects and documents wire breaks as well as other changes in the rope structure.
On-site personal instruction
ROPESYS rope testing devices are easy and intuitive to operate. Nevertheless, in most cases, personal instruction is also provided—because when it comes to rope testing, there is more to it than just the technology.
It is equally important that users operate the device safely and interpret the measurement data correctly.
Our expert, Dr. Martin Wehr, therefore traveled to Austria and instructed the on-site operating staff on how to use the new R28.
Practicing under real-world conditions
The focus was on practical application. Step by step, Dr. Martin Wehr demonstrated how to correctly attach the compact testing device to the rope.
In addition, the team practiced using the R28 rope testing device and systematically analyzing the measurement data.
In this way, the employees became familiar with the device under the very conditions in which they would later use it. Any open questions could be clarified immediately—right where it would ultimately matter.
Safe journey down into the valley
Many thanks to the operators of the Zipline Stoderzinken for the trust they have placed in us.
We wish all courageous flyers a fantastic—and, above all, safe—journey down into the valley, now and in the future!
