ROPESYS Splice Finder – Safe operation in special detachable cable cars.

The ROPESYS splice finder reliably detects every splice in detachable cable car systems.

Using its magnetic system, it continuously checks whether there is a splice in the station.

The device sends signals to the control system or warning lights as needed. This ensures safe operation and reduces the workload for personnel.

Rope splicing for endless loops

When splicing a rope, skilled workers join two rope ends to form a continuous loop. They take care to ensure that the rope is only minimally thickened so that the coupling clamps function correctly.

Modern coupling clamps tolerate a maximum thickness of ten percent compared to the rope diameter in the splice area. Experienced splicers usually stay well below this limit.

The splice is a sensitive section that needs to be checked and maintained regularly.

Here you will find an informational video on the production of rope splices, which clearly explains the process.

Special requirements for the Wankbahn

On special installations like the Wankbahn cable car in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the clamps of the cabins must not couple in the splice area. Therefore, the system automatically prevents coupling.

The Wankbahn cable car was built in 1981 by PWH (Pohlig-Weser-Hütte) and operates fully automatically with gravity clamps of the Swiss Giovanola system.

This technical feature requires the highest precision in monitoring.

Function and advantages of the ROPESYS splice finder

The splice finder uses magnets to check whether a splice is located in the station or the opposite station. If the system detects a splice, it informs the cable car control system in real time.

This prevents clamps from connecting in the splice area. In this way, the device reliably prevents misconnections.

At the same time, it supports the operating staff, increases efficiency and ensures that processes become safer and smoother.

Successful commissioning on the Wankbahn

The first splice finder has been monitoring section II of the Wankbahn cable car in Garmisch-Partenkirchen for a year.

In February 2026, a second device was installed on Section I. This means the entire railway line is now monitored.

Safety and innovation through the ROPESYS splice finder

The ROPESYS splice finder demonstrates how practical and innovative safety solutions can be implemented. Through magnetic detection, real-time monitoring, and control integration, the system achieves maximum safety.

This relieves the burden on staff, improves operational processes and increases the efficiency of the plant.

Solution for detachable cable cars worldwide

The installation on the Wankbahn cable car illustrates how important technological innovations are in sensitive areas.

With the ROPESYS splice finder, ROTEC offers a solution worldwide that significantly increases safety, reliability and efficiency in special detachable cable car systems.

ROPESYS – Safety at the highest level. Made by engineers in Germany.
